Harry Diack Johnstone
H. Diack Johnstone: Canadian-born musicologist, born 1935. Educated at the Royal College of Music in London and Balliol College, Oxford (Organ Scholar). Appointed Assistant Lecturer in Music at Reading University in 1963 and Senior Lecturer in 1967. Moved to Oxford in 1980 as the first Tutorial Fellow in Music at St Anne’s College with an ancillary post at St John’s. Having been a member of the Editorial Committee of Musica Britannica since 1985, he was invited to become General Editor in 2002 and retired (with the title Emeritus General Editor) in 2016. He has himself edited five volumes in the series and, in 1990, he co-edited and contributed to the first ever history of music in Britain (Blackwell). In 2017, Boydell & Brewer published a book of essays in his honour.
